Origin
Fern Mertens the Human is Finn's Grass Demon-Human Hybrid doppelgänger who made his debut in Adventure Time's thirteenth episode of its eighth season, "Reboot".
According to the main lead writer for MultiVersus, Fern's portrayal in the game comes from the period when he tried to become a hero off-screen in Adventure Time.[1]

Trivia
- Fern was originally intended to recycle Finn the Human's voice lines (performed by Jeremy Shada) before the developers at Player First Games reconsidered hiring Hayden Ezzy after a huge fan outcry.[2]
- This Variant was originally listed as EPIC! prior to the Season 2.01 Patch.
- When purchasing BMO, Fern accidently uses his voicelines from his currently unreleased Announcer Pack. This glitch has yet to be fixed.
- Fern is currently the only Variant to have an Announcer Pack in the game.
